Committees & Task Forces

Overview

Committees play an important role in DCAT’s volunteer-driven organization. They are vital to the association’s operation and provide continuity of thinking as well as bringing together a cross section of member knowledge and experience. DCAT’s standing committees are charged with identifying the needs of the members, managing initiatives consistent with the organization’s goals and objectives. Standing committees often have related task forces that are assigned shorter-term projects and assignments.

Applications for a Committee or Task Force can be completed year-round.

Primary Functions

Standing Committees are:

  • Charged with identifying the needs of the members, managing initiatives, marketing, coordinating volunteers and other activities.
  • Members of these committees undertake assignments on a longer-term basis, which enables them to bring continuity to their projects.
  • Responsibilities include a time commitment to committee meetings and/or conference calls usually 8-10 times per year as well as emails and specific assignments.
  • Committee members generally make a two-year commitment to a particular committee. After that they are encouraged to rotate off to another committee in order to provide the space for another to have the volunteer experience.

Task Forces are:

  • Formed primarily to work on a highly focused task or provide a specific service to the organization within a specified period of time.
  • Work is usually conducted by email and conference calls, with an optional opportunity to meet in person, if necessary.
  • Members of task forces undertake assignments on a short-term basis.
  • Their role is completed once the specific responsibilities delegated to them are achieved.

Committee Descriptions

Alliance for Industry Women Committee is responsible for programs and special events focused on the advancement of women in the biopharmaceutical/pharmaceutical industry. The committee provides a community for mentoring and leadership development and as part of their responsibilities will manage and plan the Women’s Networking Breakfast during DCAT Week. Staff liaisons: Margaret Timony, Executive Director and Mikaela Venice, Meeting Coordinator

Education Committee is responsible for identifying the educational needs of the membership and creating quality, value-added programs to enhance the membership’s knowledge, professionalism and business development goals. This committee also assigns work to task forces for DCAT Week education programs. Staff liaison: Patricia Van Arnum, Editorial Director

The Industry Leadership Council consists of six representatives appointed by the Executive Committee of the Board of Directors. These appointees are selected to represent diverse sectors of the DCAT Membership. Through a series of formal meetings conducted by the Board President, council members identify trends, opportunities and provide the Board of Directors with a broader array of industry perspectives to use when developing strategic actions for the organization.

Member Advantage Committee is responsible for identifying the evolving needs of the DCAT Membership Community and for showcasing the extraordinary value of our existing programs, services, and information available to the Member Companies and potential members. The committee also assists in the retention of our Membership based on the value generated. Staff liaison: Lauryn Kuna, Director, Membership Services.

Research and Benchmarking Committee conducts in-depth studies that examine critical issues impacting the biopharmaceutical/pharmaceutical manufacturing value chain and the pharma customer-supplier relationship. The program offers “Peer-to-Peer Insight” on trends and practices relating to the biopharmaceutical/pharmaceutical manufacturing and supply value chain, leveraging the unique relationship between DCAT, its member companies and their manufacturing and supply chain professionals. Staff liaison: Jim Miller, DCAT Content Advisor.

Science & Scholarship Committee is responsible for identifying the needs of today’s students and educators and provides them with assistance through a variety of projects, grants and member supported initiatives. Staff liaison: Erin Sanders, Sr. Communications & Technology Specialist.

Supply Management Committee is responsible for identifying the educational needs of individuals working in supply management and to create quality, value-added programs regarding issues and trends that influence the supply chain, enhance the membership’s knowledge, professionalism, and business development goals. Value Chain Insights Editorial Committee is responsible for advising DCAT staff on topics and subjects of interest to DCAT members for DCAT's Value Chain Insights (VCI), a weekly information resource of DCAT, and for offering feedback on the editorial content of VCI. The breadth and depth of the collective expertise of members of the Value Chain Insights (VCI) Editorial Committee ensures that VCI serves the varying information needs of DCAT member companies and that VCI delivers topical, salient, and relevant content for DCAT members.
