Robbinsville, NJ, July 9, 2009 – DCAT members and their guests teed up for science at the 2009 DCAT Scholarship Golf Outing on July 9 at Cherry Valley Country Club in Skillman, NJ.
“You couldn’t ask for a better day,” said DCAT President Jim Martin of Schering-Plough Corporation. “Great conditions, a pleasant day on the course with colleagues, and an opportunity to support DCAT’s scholarship initiatives—that’s what the golf outing is all about.”
The event supports DCAT’s scholarship initiatives with the National Science Teachers Association, including the DCAT Making a Difference Award that recognizes outstanding teachers who develop innovative science education programs for middle and high school students.
Recipients of the 2009 DCAT Making a Difference Award, presented at the National Science Teacher Association National Conference on Science Education were Jason Crean of Lyons Township High School in LaGrange, Illinois and Mette Schwartz of Sherwood Middle School in Shrewsbury, Massachusetts.
Following a reception on the patio and a buffet dinner, awards were presented by Martin and DCAT Executive Director Margaret Timony, including the best overall foursome, closest to the pin, longest drive, and challenge the pro.
Timony also acknowledged the many volunteers and sponsors whose tremendous efforts and generous support made the event possible. Thanks were extended to members of the Scholarship Funding and Science Education Scholarship Committees, as well as the event sponsors.
