DCAT Volunteer Levels of Engagement
Thank you for your interest in the DCAT organization! We appreciate your eagerness to share your time and talents by volunteering.
Volunteer opportunities are organized into three types requiring different levels of engagement. While every application is considered, some committees do have limited vacancies. However, you are always invited to be part of our Industry Volunteer Community as described below.
Please take a few minutes and review our three levels of engagement. If you would like to volunteer, please fill out the
Volunteer Application Form and submit it to DCAT’s headquarters at
Volunteer@dcat.org.
Engagement Level 1 – Standing Committees are charged with the development of programs and events for the membership, such as educational programs, networking events and community outreach projects. Members of these committees undertake assignments on a longer-term basis, which enables them to bring continuity to their projects.
Responsibilities include:
- Interacting with DCAT staff members, other committees, the board and leadership
- Soliciting input, interest and actions from others in the industry to meet the goals of the committee
- Understanding the needs of the members
- Reviewing website content or other collateral materials prior to their distribution to members
- Attending at least six or more teleconferences per year
- Meeting in person during DCAT Week, or another meeting venue such as the Sourcing Summit
- Evaluation of data received from members
Please review a description of Engagement Level 1 Standing Committees below Level 2 and 3.
Engagement Level 2 – Task Forces and Ad Hoc Committees are formed primarily to work on a highly focused task or provide a specific service to the organization within a specified period of time. Work is usually conducted by email and conference calls, with an optional opportunity to meet in person, if necessary. Members of these committees undertake assignments on a shorter-term basis. Their role is completed once the specific responsibilities delegated to them are achieved.
Engagement Level 3 – DCAT’s Industry Volunteer Community provides opportunities for member company representatives to use their unique experiences and professional interests to assess program topics, proposed learning content, or other organizational initiatives and provide your feedback. Work is conducted by email and/or telephone calls. Volunteers are also needed to assist at meetings, hospitality and networking events, as well as to assist staff with small projects and provide feedback when needed. Minimal time is required for these activities and a committee or staff member would contact you when your expertise or assistance is needed.

The Member Services Committee evaluates current member services, and provides recommendations on new ones that will support recruitment and retention of members. They also assist in identifying appropriate partnerships, recommend information and resources for our website, and look for trends that will impact our members’ needs.
The Science Education Scholarship Committee is responsible to identify the needs of today’s students and educators and provide them with assistance through a variety of organizational projects, grants and member support.
