Sourcing Summit RECAP
The Sourcing Summit kicked off with an opening luncheon and economic forecast by Dr. Robert Fry of DuPont who concluded that globally, growth is slowing to a lower, slower trend and that there is a tendency to over-react to data/news because little is changing.
Following lunch, keynote speaker Puneet Sapra (Pfizer) shared how his organization has created a sustained culture of innovation and explained that innovation is a continuum from incremental performance improvements to breakthrough business models. Next, a panel discussion featured innovation success stories with Dr. Oscar-Werner Reif (Sartorius), Rhonda Griscti (GSK) and Donna J. Gruol (Teva).
Accenture facilitated the afternoon Innovation Exercise, featuring an interactive environment where sourcing professionals and suppliers came together to discuss Speed Innovation. The attendees worked together in groups to identify the issues, spot the big ideas and learn how to turn those big ideas into something real and tangible.
After the education sessions, attendees unwound at a reception, followed by a dinner and door prizes, sponsored by Infa. The lucky winners were Doug Donnolly (Bayer) who went home with an iPad and Mark Fitzgerald (Amcor) who won a Sony Video Camera. The evening’s festivities ended with outstanding performances by comedians Buddy Fitzpatrick and headliner Vinnie Brand, owner of The Stress Factory Comedy Club in New Brunswick, NJ.
Thursday morning’s sessions, opened with a panel discussion with Albert Gallo (J&J), Ansa Yiadom (Pfizer) and Dr. Andreas Stolle (Saltigo) sharing how their companies are implementing innovative strategies, followed by a keynote address by Paul Sidhu of DSM Pharmaceutical Products who shared four case studies demonstrating how DSM Pharma has implemented innovation in strategic partnerships to drive value.
The final session, facilitated by Accenture, provided a recap of the highlights from the Sourcing Summit, as well as an opportunity for the work groups to share the ideas and strategies they developed during Wednesday’s Innovation Exercise. A highlight of this session was the video on Colalife and how a simple innovative concept is helping the lives of many today. Check out the video on

Attendees left with new ideas and key tools to begin implementing innovation at their companies, as well as a complimentary copy of
