DCAT is pleased to offer another installment of its successful International Business Development series. This three-hour program will be followed by a reception during which program participants are invited to meet the speakers and other attendees. Seating is limited and is on a first- come, first-serve basis.

This presentation will delve into some of the current trends in the external provider market and their impact, positive and negative, on developing a manufacturing strategy for clinical API.

 

Speaker Bios:
Doug Billings, Director, PRTM
Doug joined PRTM in 1994 and is a core member of the company’s Operational Strategy and Innovation service area. With 20 years of experience in business leadership, he has broad-based experience in delivering business results in life-science-technology based businesses. With a focus on growth through innovation, Doug’s background includes defining operational and innovation strategy, portfolio management, R&D project management, pharmaceutical technology transfer, supply-chain strategy and acquisition integration.

Prior to PRTM, Doug began his consulting career in the field of customer satisfaction and quality research. Before joining the consulting profession, Doug held the position of Director of Product Development for the development-stage life science company where he led the development effort and marketing for a highly innovative line of tissue-engineering-based medical research products. Doug began his career in technology acquisition and strategic planning in medical devices and pharmaceuticals at the divisional and corporate levels of Eli Lilly & Co.

Doug received a BA in biology from Duke University including graduate-level training in immunology and genetics.  He graduated with honors from the MBA program of the University of Michigan Graduate School of Business.

Michael Filosa, Senior Director – Global API Strategic Sourcing & Planning, Pfizer Global R&D Mike’s entire 21-year career with Pfizer has been involved with either Commercial or Clinical API. Mike has run commercial manufacturing processes and facilities in Groton, CT and Puerto Rico, and been involved with the launch and scale-up of many of Pfizer’s current products. He has provided API Technical support from Pfizer’s Corporate Headquarters in New York, covering areas of regulatory filings, quality, process improvement, and operations support. In 1997, Mike started the Material Sourcing Group for Pfizer’s Groton R&D portfolio. He ultimately grew the organization’s responsibility to span all chemical, analytical and drug product outsourcing. Mike actively led API integration teams for both the Warner Lambert and Pharmacia acquisitions. Mike currently leads a Center of Emphasis for Global API Strategic Sourcing and Planning.

John H. Markels, Ph.D., Vice President, Strategic Initiatives, Merck Manufacturing Division
He is responsible for managing the integration and implementation of Merck’s transformational Supply Strategy.   This includes driving the changes necessary to make MMD the supplier of choice, to realize rapid productivity escalation through enhanced production paradigms such as lean manufacturing, and to significantly increase the efficiency and speed of new product commercialization.

Dr. Markels has almost 20 years of experience in manufacturing at Merck in the API, Drug Product and Vaccine technology areas, most recently with technology responsibility for Pharmaceutical manufacturing worldwide including process design, new product technology transfer and support for in-line manufacturing across Merck’s supply chain. 

Jim Miller, President, PharmSource Information Services, Inc
Jim Miller is founder and president of PharmSource, a provider of market intelligence on major trends, developments and practices in the contract manufacturing and research industry. PharmSource’s market intelligence databases and reports help its clients manage their sourcing programs with timely analysis of market conditions, contractor strategies and financial performance, and sourcing practices. PharmSource subscription services include the PharmSource Lead Sheet, Bio/Pharmaceutical Outsourcing Report, and PharmSource.com.

Jim received his MBA from the Stanford University Graduate School of Business, and was a consultant in corporate strategy with the Boston Consulting Group.

Kimberly A. Wagner, Ph.D, Vice President and Director, The Boston Consulting Group
Kimberly A. Wagner is a senior member of BCG’s Healthcare and Information Technology practices. The Boston Consulting Group is an international strategy and general management consulting firm whose mission is to help leading corporations create and sustain competitive advantage.  Kim primarily serves research and development clients in the pharmaceutical, biotech and specialty chemical sectors on issues related to strategy, cross-functional global operations, productivity improvement, organizational design, change management, and post merger integration.  She is the co-leader of BCG’s global R&D business and has co-authored BCG research reports on conducing R&D in Asia. 

Based in New York City, she joined BCG in 1994 after receiving her BS from Cornell University, an MS from Texas A&M University, and a Ph.D from Harvard University.
