DCAT Week 2006: DCAT Week is truly a unique event held each year during the month of March. Thousands of representatives in the PharmaChem and Nutritional industries from across the country and around the world gather at the Waldorf-Astoria. Center stage are education sessions, business meetings, receptions and the “famous” Annual Dinner.
DCAT HR Council: DCAT HR Council is intended as a discussion group for HR professionals whose companies are a corporate member of the DCAT organization. The goal is to provide a forum for companies in the PharmaChem and Nutritional business to be able to come together and share common issues, ideas and have an opportunity to network.
The Program: During DCAT Week, The Drug, Chemical and Associated Technologies Association is pleased to offer this program especially developed for HR professionals in the PharmaChem and Nutritional industries. This three-hour program will allow participants to hear from experts in the field. Participants are invited to dialogue with the speakers as well as other attendees and are encouraged to network during the luncheon. Seating is limited and is on a first- come, first-serve basis.
Attracting and Retaining Top Talent Globally: Are You Ready? This program is designed for HR professionals who are interested in understanding the ways their companies can learn the tools to help them become the global employer-of-choice and recognize the needs of the global talent market. Each presenter will allow ample time for questions and answers.

The speaker will discuss important topics such as the balance of power between candidates’ expectations and employer value propositions; the profiles of the ideal candidate and how it has evolved over the years; the tools and practices that can increase the probability of a successful hire. He will also discuss the reluctance of many life science companies to recruit "out of the box" (from other industries); discuss the impact of companies who were well known for management training (so-called talent houses) but now are scaling back those programs; and how to increase the probability that your high potential employee will say "no thank you" when the recruiter calls.

To attract and retain the best talent around the world, companies have begun to tailor their employer value propositions and talent brand to be more consistent with the values of their target talent pool in order to increase the attractiveness of their firms. Based on a current academic research study, this session will discuss the challenges for attracting and retaining highly-skilled junior-level talent from 24 countries including analyzing generational and cultural differences. Discuss ways to become a global employer-of-choice for newly-minted MBAs, chemical engineers, chemists, etc. around the world.

Speaker Bios:
Paula Caligiuri, Ph.D. Director, Center for HR Strategy, Rutgers University
Paula Caligiuri, PhD is on the faculty in the Human Resource Management Department in the School of Management and Labor Relations at Rutgers University, where she is the Director of the Center for Human Resource Strategy (CHRS) and the Co-Director of the European Executive Master in HR Leadership. Paula researches, publishes, and consults in strategic human resource management in multinational organizations, global leadership development, and global assignee management. She has lectured in numerous universities in the United States, Asia, and Europe.
As an academic, Paula Caligiuri was listed among the most prolific authors in the field of International Business according to a 2005 study conducted by Michigan State University. Paula is on numerous editorial boards for academic management journals and is an Associate Editor for Human Resource Management Journal. As an Industry Expert and Co-Host, Paula covers management-related topics for the television program World Business Review with Alexander Hag. As a consultant, Paula is the President of Caligiuri and Associates, Inc., a consulting firm specializing in selection, performance assessment, and development of global leaders. Her clients include several U.S.-based and European-based global organizations. Paula holds a Ph.D. from Penn State University in industrial and organizational psychology.
Richard D. Morford, Client Partner, Korn Ferry
Mr. Morford is a Client Partner with Korn Ferry in the Global Industrial Practice. His focus is in the specialty and fine chemical industries, leveraging 23 years of international and domestic chemical industry experience. Prior to Korn/Ferry, Mr. Morford was the Managing Director for a specialist search firm where he significantly expanded the chemical and life science practice. His assignments have spanned the general management, senior technical and administrative functions.
Prior to his career in executive search, Mr. Morford had extensive management experience and demonstrated success in chemical industry leadership positions. The majority of his industry tenure was spent with two European companies: Rhone-Poulenc and DSM Fine Chemicals. His market and industry knowledge includes pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals, food ingredients, flavor and fragrance materials, surfactants, water treatment, personal care and rubber chemicals. Mr. Morford is a past member of the Board of Governors of the Synthetic Organic Chemical Manufacturer’s Association and currently sits on the Board of Directors for Danchem Technologies. Mr. Morford holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Biological Sciences from Brown University and an MBA in Chemical Marketing from Fairleigh Dickinson University.
